Topic Beat the Heat

In this session, OSHA and industry experts will review the new OSHA National Emphasis Program on Heat Stress in the workplace.  Theresa Downs, OSHA Area Director, will review the NEP and case study. Then, Michael Kenyon from CMI and Rich Dysinger from FedEx will review consideration and solutions in the Construction and General Industries.

Theresa Downs, CIH: Director, Philadelphia Area Office U.S. Department of Labor – Occupational Safety and Health Administration

Theresa Downs is a certified industrial hygienist and has been in the health & safety industry for 20 years.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from Rutgers University and a Master of Science in Environmental Occupational Health Sciences from City University of New York, Hunter College.  She started in the field of Industrial Hygiene as a consultant for Hillmann Consulting and transitioned into the government sector with OSHA in 2010 as a Compliance Safety and Health Officer working in the Avenel Area Office.  Theresa became the Assistant Area Director for the Philadelphia Area Office in 2015 and then to her current position as the Area Director in 2016.

Michael Kenyon, Manager, Health and Safety Services, Compliance Management International

Mr. Kenyon is a seasoned EHS professional with 17 years of diverse project management and EHS field experience.  He has extensive experience in implementing training programs, incident prevention programs, EHS improvement initiatives, auditing, and regulatory compliance processes.  He works closely with leadership and management to establish action plans, goals and objectives that continually improve EHS performance, and reduce related losses and risks.

Mike’s primary experience is in construction through manufacturing, industrial, US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and government industries as a safety director / manager.  He managed EHS programs, training, and inspection procedures at Swinerton Builders, Bovislendlease, and Hunter Roberts Construction Group in Colorado, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  During his time with the various large construction management firms, he led leadership / management teams and many projects of 1000+ employees to an incident and injury free culture.  Now apart of the Compliance Management International (CMI) team, Mike is a safety and health consultant while leading the Onsite Safety Staffing and Construction Health and Safety departments.  The construction client base of general contractors and subcontractors rely on Mike and his team to continually improve their EHS programs and become one of the best in their respective industries.  His expertise in health and safety creates compliance and a safe culture through EHS training, program development, and lower worker compensation costs.   

Richard Dysinger, CDS

Rich has been in safety for 32 years and is currently a Safety Specialist with FedEx Ground where he is responsible for employee safety and hazard abatement at their facilities in Philadelphia, Pottsville and Reading, PA.  Prior to working for FedEx he was at UPS for 10 years.  Rich is a member of ASSP, the National Safety Council and the PA Motor Truck Association (PMTA).  He has the OSHA 30-hour training accreditation.
