Indiana University of Pennsylvania Named 2023 Outstanding Student Section

For the first time in nearly 10 years, our student section at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) has been named the Outstanding Student Section of the Year. The section is part of the Western Pennsylvania Chapter.

The section was strong in all three critical requirements — professional development, research, and campus and community Involvement. The award committee noted the group’s strong technical meetings with diverse topics and presenters, along with great community service projects. The section’s research projects, including “The Influence of Surface Types on Walking Parameters With Slips, Trips and Falls on Construction Sites” and “Work Effort and Perceived Exertion While Wearing Passive Exoskeleton and Industrial Overhead Tasks,” also helped the section receive top honors.

Millersville University Named 2022 Outstanding Student Section of the Year

For the first time in over 20 years, our student section at Millersville University has been named the Outstanding Student Section of the Year. The student section is part of the Region VIII Central Pennsylvania Chapter.

The group was strong in all three critical requirements — professional development, research, and campus and community Involvement.

The committee that reviewed applications was impressed with the section’s submission. “The quality and quantity of research conducted by the members was outstanding along with the organization of the application and the number of technical meetings this student section participated in.” Faculty advisor Betty-Jo Bowers and the student section will receive $5,000 to fund scholarships and research.

Establish a Safety Fund

Donors can establish a named academic scholarship or professional education grant fund through the ASSP Foundation. Scholarships and grants advance the safety profession and provide national recognition for the donor. The Foundation manages the administrative details of this program and works with the donor to provide qualified award recipients each year.
